Client Guide to the Production Process PDF Print E-mail

Because many clients aren't familiar with video production, we've summarized below some of the key steps in the process. These steps fall into three phases of production:

  • PHASE 1 - Pre-production: Planning & coordination of the project, including scripting.
  • PHASE 2 - Production: The actual videotaping, recording of narration, music selections, development of graphics.
  • PHASE 3 - Post-production: Editing and assembling of video clips, audio mixing, insertion of titles, graphics and effects, and creation of master DVD and web files.

PHASE 1 - PRE-PRODUCTION

Preliminary estimate/bid: After meeting with a client, we can provide a preliminary budget estimate. This estimate is based on the number of shooting days, locations, the need for outside services such as professional narration and the amount of time needed for editing.

PHASE 2 - PRODUCTION

Taping: We will work with you to set up a schedule, with specific arrival times and all taping locations. Most clients are surprised to see how much time is involved in setting up each scene. Please bear with us as we set up our equipment, check audio and video levels, and shoot a scene from several angles.

Graphics: We can develop high-quality logos, graphs, etc. You may need to provide us with camera-ready artwork or the computer files which contain the information.

PHASE 3 - POST-PRODUCTION

Editing: This is often the most time-consuming aspect of the video production process. All editing is done on state of the art equipment.  The sounds and images on our videotapes are sent to the computers digitally (as numbers) to avoid any loss of quality. This is where the raw footage will be assembled into its final form. Decisions are made about what material will be included or cut, exact placement of music and narration, and pacing.

You will be given a "Preview Copy" to approve. We can make changes based on your suggestions and provide additional preview copies if needed.  Once the video is approved, a master DVD will be made for duplication.
